The Township Treasurer is a voting member of the Township Board of Trustees
Statutory Duties of the Treasurer include:
- Collects delinquent personal property tax
- Collects mobile home specific tax
- Collects Real & Personal property taxes
- Deposits Township revenues in approved depositories
- Invests Township Fund in approved investment vehicles
- Issues Township checks
- Keeps an account of township receipts (revenue) and expenditures
- Responsible for jeopardy assessments in collecting property tax
- Must appoint a deputy
- Must post a surety bond

“By statute, the township treasurer is required to receive and take charge of all funds belonging to the township or which are required by law to be paid into the township treasury and to pay over and account for the funds according to law or township board decision. The treasurer is the township’s agent for collecting taxes.” Michigan Townships Association
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAYING YOUR TAXES
Statement of Right to Appeal/non-Principal Residence Only “You have the right to appear at the July and/or December Boards of Review for principal residence and agricultural exemptions. Call the Assessor at 231-881-4000 or email at townshipassessing@gmail.com to be put on the schedule for July and/or December Boards of Review.”
NOTICE: While the township offices are closed on Fridays we do accept payment through the mail, using the postmark date (for summer and winter original due dates only), by drop box, located near the entrance to the Township Hall, or by e-check or credit card. Postmarks are not allowed for February 28th due date. Credit card and e-check payments require a service fee that goes directly to the facilitating company.
Late Payment of Taxes: On March 1st of each year, the prior year’s property taxes are to be paid to Benzie County Treasurer, 448 Court Place, Beulah, MI 49617. Please call that office at 231-882-0011 to obtain your correct balance due with penalties and interest.
